Jordan Smart, "Who Would Jesus Bomb?" // GemsOnVHS™
2023 Gems in the Rough winner Jordan Smart is back today with another carefully crafted piece of hard hitting songwriting. Jordan knows how to really say something impactful through his words, and this one in particular has been making the viral rounds on the internet. The song definitely speaks for itself in subject matter. We decided to shoot it in the church-turned-music venue, Southgate House Revival, in Newport, KY, surrounded by religious motifs in stained glass and old hardwood floors. A bit of holy communion that afternoon.
Big thanks to Jordan for inviting me out to his neck of the woods, that magical border of Kentucky and Ohio. A lot of folks chatting shit about Ohio, the midwest, places along the old rustbelt corridor. After spending some time there, I'd have to say it's kind of charming, in its own lower-back tattoo, run down strip mall sort of way. Consider yourself lucky if gentrification, and all the soul-sucking demolition that comes with it, misses your city. The kind of place you can still roll into a family owned diner for a dollar cup of coffee.

Sam Shackleton, "Lone Prairie," // GemsOnVHS™

A dream come true for a certain Scotsman from Edinburgh. Years after I crossed the Atlantic and met the banjo-busking, ballad-belting, Guinness enjoying Sam Shackleton, he did the reverse journey and came to visit his long lost kinsmen in Kentucky. Very appropriate, as many people of Scots-Irish decent, very likely including Mr. Benjamin Tod's ancestors, made that journey themselves, in search ...

When Americanafest 2023 rolled around, we decided to finally (after a lifetime in Nashville) take part. With our buddies at Garhole Records, we put on a showcase at a local spot called VinylTap (great beer and records). Garhole, the gang out in Arkansas founded by renowned whistler n picker Nick Shoulders, brought the heat. I've known Dylan Earl awhile now, since meeting him at the Whitewater T...

Here we are again, finding ourselves in the beautiful city of Dublin, experiencing another little moment in Ireland. It's the band DUG again, whomst you may remember from their last outing on the channel, in an abandoned warehouse in Dublin (ua-cam.com/video/E3ru5vfyqZU/v-deo.htmlsi=j_JYWl9JIYdN7cBY). Lorkin O'Reilly is the guitarist there, joined by banjo player Jonny Pickett and this time by ...

This is from a hot summer in Raleigh, North Carolina. I'd flown out to meet BJ Barham, prodigal son of the beautiful state and long time legendary musician. He might not believe it (and thank God he doesn't, that kind of arrogance can drive you mad), but he's one of the best songwriters i've ever known, and a real DIY trailblazer. They say not to meet your heros, and I can confirm this is often...

The most honest song I've heard in years. Made me fucking cry.
Thought this video disappeared!
My best buddy. Bush. Rest in power
it's a bit too Anderson Cooper for me, but he has the craft..
*when politics are your entire personality*
Chutzpah Storytime ?
Yes please yes thank you🖤
Why don’t you just come out and say it. You hate God
> “Does Jesus teach us to genocide? To bomb and murder?” > “This is anti-Christian propaganda!!!! U hate god wtf?!!!”
The point is Jesus would condemn bombing people in general.
You missed the point.
I love this new obsession starting now
So good
No, she wouldn’t. She would just blame you most women do.
A very timely and desperately needed song for humanity. Deep appreciations for sending this out to the world. I am a crusty multiple tour combat veteran (ashamed of now) and a Veteran for Peace (happy to be now) and love the message of this. <SALUTE> What would Jesus do?
i ain't even a christian, but, preach.
The bible teaches to obey the laws of land. Killing Christians is wrong. So is being gay. You really need to be careful what you sing. You clearly support "gays for Palestine " which shows your sorry soul. Stop using God's name in vain.
Jesus would (bc He already did) give His life for any and all that would choose to believe in Him bc they have come to the saving knowledge that God is Love and all the stuff that ruins our lives is anti-Love. Great song❤️🙏🌈
truth
Perfect
West Virginia song
West Virginia song
She.... kinda is
Look, she is perfection
And who is this lame strawman song directed at? This is the epitome of, "take the Lords name in Vain". Jesus would tell you to stop using his name, in your disingenuous political nonsense.
No. I just had a buffet so I'm to tired to argue so just no to your comment.
Jesus also said to love migrants like your own family and to never trust those who spread fear and hatred against migrants. See - when Jesus was born, he and his parents were migrants. Imagine if him and his parents had been separated at the Jerusalem border and put in cages. Try and imagine it.
@@Arisaem your effeminate, emotionally manipulative, rhetoric, is nonsense. Jesus is lord, first off, it wouldn't have mattered one iota, I'd his upbringing had differed in any way. When Jesus talked about "love", he wasn't talking about this fake love effeminate men, and women talk about. You are bastardizing his words, for your own ends. That's disgusting. To "love them as your own family", doesn't mean allow them to destroy your home, and your culture. You can stop with the disingenuous, dishonest, BS. Jesus also commands us to follow the law of whatever principality we are under. Enticing immigrants to break the law for their own selfish gains, is the opposite of Christ's teachings. It is a sin, to cherry pick the Word, twisting it for your own selfish wants. Repent, and return to the Father.
Why don’t he mock Muhammad or Buddha , I want you to ask yourself that
> “Does Jesus teach us to genocide? To bomb and murder?” > “This is anti-Christian propaganda!!!! U hate god wtf?!!!”
Incredible song wow
palestine isn't a place. FJB.
Othello (written in 1603) Act 4 Scene 3: Emilia: "I know a lady in Venice would have walked barefoot3060 to Palestine for a touch of his nether lip." Always has been, always will be
Right up there with Gods Plan. I wish people would just take a second to think about what in the everfuck we are doing. We’ve lost the plot. It’s sad.
Her voice
I like it. A bit idealistic considering the stories of jesus are an amalgamation of older, pre-diluvian, stories of multiple different people, but ya got a good melody and a good heart. Add another verse with a black nobility reference and its a cut for the ages.
Stories of Jesus being an amalgamation of older pre-diluvian stories of multiple people just doesn’t roll off the tongue for a song
Blasphemous
Ummm, no.. we can infer the answer is perhaps nobody?
> “Does Jesus teach us to genocide? To bomb and murder?” > “This is anti-Christian propaganda!!!! U hate god wtf?!!!”
Is a fantastic side scrolling game
So good ✌️ Anthony, you keep coming up with absolute gold! Thanks to everyone, this hit the proverbial 'spot'.
Excellent
*anarcho-hickism intensifies* 😎
Thanks so much for posting!
beautiful
He "promised" he would come back, not threatened.
I think that's intentional.
The lyrics are “like you threatened he will” hope this help clear things up
Love you Jordan, I'm glad you're my friend. Keep speaking up, brother!
Absolutely awesome
I just hope the right people listen through and let it sink in.
It won’t unfortunately. Look at this “shorts” version of this song
I would love to hear the whole song❤
Wow, fantastic songwriting!
Very similar to an old David Rovics song.
paul simon clone...
Never could believe in God or religion because of all the messed up history I learned about in school. The state of the world is why I ain't no Christian. I know what Jesus would do....
Great song - keep them coming. Great message
israel and central banks like the FED
Right on! Awesome song. I've got tears in my eyes as I type . . . about to hit replay
Love this song and this video. Jordan is the best!
I have to point out that there's a song from 20 years ago with the same title and premise by David Rovics. But the American Empire is still what it is, so it has to be said again
Rovics is a really wonderful songwriter. Loved his song for tortuguita too
I heard that one when looking up this one. Clever tune, good writing, different times but the same message.
Beautiful, bout to play this one at church
know you're likely joking but my non-evangelical church would definitely play this at a service
💖💖💖💖
Great song with a profound message. As a Christian I adore this kind of work.
